As The Atieno Project, Our Mission is to create digital and offline platforms where we can facilitate the collection and dissemination of information on legislations, policies, current events etc. that specifically target young women and educate them on how these issues affect their lives. This includes collecting and curating the works of Kenyan Feminism and Feminists which are otherwise not available in non-academic platforms. Our secondary mission is to create safe spaces for young women, especially online, where they can engage these issues freely.
Our Vision is to create a link for young women, between the Feminist activism we do on social media and the conferences we hold by creating permanent online libraries through Curation of Kenyan Feminist work, Legislations, Policies etc for easier access to young women, especially non-academics who wish to learn about Feminism in Kenya and how it intertwines with women specific legislation.
We will be holding participant driven meetings and allowing people to respond to as well as initiate topics and areas of conversation around set themes. The themes will largely aim to explore gender relations that guide our perceptions, behaviour, attitudes, roles, status and posit this against given socio-cultural, socio-economic and /or socio-political contexts. The main big-issue topics around which we'll center our meetings on are: the environment, poverty, education, sexuality, population and reproductive rights, and conflict and resolution.
